4 Months of Diego

This month has also brought many fine jewels such as the full out giggle and belly laugh (somebody has to laugh at mommy and daddy's jokes besides mommy and daddy), advanced toy grasping and chewing, the 5 second bottle hold, a fascination with drinking water from a glass, and consistent sleeping through the night! This month has also brought a not so shiny gem we like to refer to as "monster baby cry." MBC emerges when sweet Baby D is tired and/or hungry and acceptable sleep options and/or booby are not presented ASAP. Think part helium influenced lion roar and part fingernails on chalkboard, that's MBC. Eh, small price to pay for the afore mentioned milestones.

Stay tuned for tales of Christmas in Boulder and check out some Hanukkah fun here.

3 Months, New Tricks

Diego sucks his thumb almost constantly. He will even try and succeed in sticking his thumb in his mouth while eating (bottle or boob), enjoying a pacifier or even sucking his other thumb and/or hand. Amazingly, we have not captured any thumb sucking action on camera. By the next post we hope to remedy this by having a gallery of Diego thumb action to show you. For this post we will have to settle for pictures of one of Diego's newer tricks. Toy grasping!

Wanting to look his best for Grandma's visit this month, Diego put in a lot of time at the gym. Unfortunately, his six pack still needs work, but his neck is getting quite thick from holding up his brainy head. Being smart is hard work.

A Visit From Diego's Tall Aunt and Uncle or Bob Changes a Diaper

Last weekend Diego had a visit from Aunt Heather and Uncle Bob, who flew in special from Colorado to see him. They came bearing gifts of a superman t-shirt and a very curious and exciting invention called an "Exersaucer." This contraption looks like a baby swing and clips onto the molding in a doorway. Baby is inserted into the seat and is encouraged to spaz out and this creates a kind of modified bungee jumping effect for baby. Diego can't wait until he is more confident with holding his head steady to give the Exersaucer a try. Pictures will be posted.

After a quick diaper changing boot camp, Diego decided to kick mom and dad out of the house so he could spend some QT with his guests. While mom and dad wore fancy clothes outside of the house with other grownups, Diego gave Aunt Heather and Uncle Bob a firm lesson in baby-minding. When mom and dad got home, Diego was fast asleep and everyone else seemed to come through it alright too.

Other events from the weekend include a nice visit with Uncle Merril and Aunt Francie and a realization that butt-rock music can put a baby to sleep.

Two Months Old!

Wow, Baby Diego is two months (and a couple of weeks) old already and couldn't be cuter or sweeter. Some of his favorite activities include eating, smiling, babbling, eating, sleeping, cooing, and eating. He recently had his two month well baby visit where he found out that he is just above average in height but in the superstar 85th percentile in weight! If there were a cheek measurement, we're all sure he'd be off the charts.

While we are all careful to avoid using the word F-A-T, he's getting pretty suspicious of our constantly referring to him as "healthily proportioned" and "husky." All in all, he still has a very positive body image as he is completely comfortable showing his rolls and creases in nothing but a slimming onesie.

Diego has many accomplishments to brag about at only two months (sometimes sleeping through the night, holding his huge head up, blowing bubbles, thumb sucking, Bruce Lee impressions), but one of the most significant is taking his first plane ride and adding two new states to his travel map. Diego and mommy visited his great-grandparents in Parkville, MO and his Aunt Mary and Uncle Greg in Shawnee, KS. Also joining us in the heartland were Uncle Doug, Aunt Ginger, Auntie Ali, Uncle Josh, Grandma and Pop. He found the weather in the midwest to be very muggy, but the barbecue tasty.

Diego was surprised and impressed to see Uncle Josh's hair cut and celebrated by practicing some unique holding styles. To see the rest of the photos from Diego's first trip, click here..

Diego's Second Bath

Diego wanted to prove to Grandma that he really does like baths after all, and that neither of his parents would mistake him for bathwater.
