15 mos!

Life with Diego is fun and full of chatter.  The boy likes to talk! He is very focused on learning words and using them over and over and over.   He is especially interested in garbage cans, garbage trucks, and things that are generally yucky or stinky.  I'm sure you can imagine the type of humor that goes on in our house.  Judging from daddy's jokes, this humor is here to stay.

Another pass time of Diego's is creative stacking.  He spends quality time making "statues" (another favorite word) with anything on hand.  He'll often start a stacking and then knock it down if he's dissatisfied with the look of the piece, then start again.  Artist's prerogative!  Here are a few of his masterpieces.

This one is in progress...
Finished with a shoe on top!

Kitty likes to help.
Clock tower.

Diego also likes to conduct Cheerio experiments in his lab.

Up and Running in China

Diego is now 14 months and a world traveler! Currently, he is trying to get back on schedule after a 2.5 week trip to Southern China. Jet lag is kicking butts all around the Giron Ringold household.

While Diego was in the motherland, he worked on his walking, running and haggling of street vendors. He also learned to say "cool" and a few other choice words that arise while traveling and being frustrated in a foreign country. Ahem, we hope those words fade into the background soon. You can follow some of his overseas adventures at http://achineseadventure.blogspot.com. The photos will be up on our Flickr account soon.

For those of you who missed us while we were gone, feel free to drop by. Diego is spending his awake time doing a lot of this:

13 Month Old Goof Ball

Diego has been enjoying late summer and never misses a chance to smile or get silly. He is still a bit shy about walking and prefers to crawl, but first steps have been taken. For the past couple of months, he has been using the potty once or twice almost every day. Right now is all about timing on mom and dad's part, but Diego is fulfilling his part of the bargain. We do have some first-poop-in-potty pictures, but we'll spare you the sight.

Baby boy is also getting ready for his first overseas trip. He has a passport and visa in hand and will be jetting to China on Sept. 23. Along with Mom, Dad, Grandma, Uncle Dane and Aunt Judy, he will be visiting Hong Kong, Jiangmen, Nanning, Yangshuo and Guilin. Diego will also meet some long lost relatives, sample noodles along the way and learn about squat potties. Should be a momentous trip!

Until next time, we'll leave you with Willie, Diego and a treat.

11 Months and Serious About Snacks

Diego has one more month of baby-dom and can't wait to run with the big kid crowd. Well, "run" is a bit of a stretch. Although mom and dad are pretty sure he could walk if he desired, as he has that balance thing down, Diego is showing little interest in taking solo steps. But, that doesn't mean the little guy can't get around! He does plenty of walking with the aid of a couch, wall, cat, ottoman, etc.

Diego continues to rack up words in his burgeoning vocabulary. Some of his current favorites are clock, truck, trees, nose, teeth, fish, dog, Cheerios, cup, cracker, daddy, and "bap bap!" That last one is used for either a car horn, a dog's bark or the microwave timer. Notice that "Mama" is not listed. She is often referred to as "cat." Great, whatever, she's totally fine with that.

Diego has also been practicing his truffle pig imitation:
